The Pretoria Zoo is the oldest zoo in South Africa, and it’s home to over 2,000 animals. The zoo has a petting zoo where you can interact with friendly farm animals like rabbits and guinea pigs. There’s also an aquarium that displays fish native to South Africa as well as other continents such as Australia, New Zealand, and Asia Pacific islands such as Fiji or Hawaii.
The Pretoria Zoo houses several types of reptiles including snakes such as boomslangs (a type of venomous snake) along with tortoises like leopards tortoises which are indigenous only to Madagascar island off Africa’s southeast coast– this reptile house is definitely worth checking out if you’re interested in learning more about these amazing creatures!

Soshanguve Heritage Site
Soshanguve Heritage Site is a historical place that was established in 1983. It’s a site of great importance to the people of Soshanguve, who can come together at this location and share their stories. The site has been declared a National Heritage Site by both national and provincial heritage authorities because it has an important cultural history that must be preserved for future generations.
Pretoria Art Museum
The Pretoria Art Museum is a museum of art in Pretoria, South Africa. It was designed by architect Gerard Moerdijk and opened in 1965. The museum houses the largest collection of South African visual art as well as other African works on paper. The collection includes over 20 000 paintings, sculptures, and drawings by artists such as Irma Stern and Walter Battiss.

Church Square Monument
The Church Square Monument is a place of remembrance for the fall of the Anglo-Boer War. In 1903, it was built by Sir Herbert Baker and stands tall at 12 meters high with plaques bearing the names of those who died during those times. The monument is also known as the ‘Victory Monument’ because it represents victory over British forces in Pretoria and Johannesburg during this war.
The Church Square Monument is designated as a national heritage site by Heritage South Africa (formerly known as SAHRA).
Take a walk around the historic Church Square
Church Square is the home of the Church of the Province of South Africa. The square is a popular destination for tourists, who come to see its historic buildings and monuments. Locals also enjoy spending time here because they can meet friends or take a walk through the park.
The history of Church Square dates back to 1811 when it was established as one of Pretoria’s first four public squares (the others being Jubilee Park, Voortrekker Monument Park, and Union Buildings).
Magaliesburg
Magaliesburg is a beautiful place to visit. It’s also a national park, so it has lots of history and wildlife.
You can hike up the Magaliesberg mountain range, which is one of South Africa’s oldest mountains. It was formed 250 million years ago when volcanic eruptions took place here. You can see fossils from this time period on the trail!
There are many different types of animals in the park including baboons, monkeys, and leopards (if you’re lucky). If you look carefully enough you may even spot some rhinos!
South African National Museum of Military History
The South African National Museum of Military History is a must-visit for anyone interested in learning more about South African military history, as well as the role of the military in South Africa today. The museum houses over 300 vehicles, aircraft, and artillery pieces from different eras of our country’s past. You can also see displays about how these weapons were used by our brave soldiers during times of war.
If you’re visiting Pretoria with kids (or even if you aren’t), this is one place that shouldn’t be missed!
Another interesting place near Pretoria would be Bronkhorstspruit Airport which allows passengers to fly directly into OR Tambo International Airport without having to travel through Johannesburg first which makes things easier on everyone involved especially since most flights tend towards ORTIA anyway so why not take advantage?
