“She asked me, ‘Why don’t you pursue the CA designation?’ I had done well in accounting during high school, but I hadn’t seriously considered it. Her suggestion sparked my curiosity.”

Navigating Academic Challenges

“From the start, I was resolute—there was no room for repeating a year or writing a supplementary exam,” he explains.
His strategy was rooted in deeply understanding his coursework, which minimized the need to revisit old material. Despite the rigorous demands of his BCom and PGDA studies, Ketsa maintained his resolve and successfully graduated on time.
Conquering the ITC and APC Exams
The CA(SA) qualification requires passing two critical exams: the Initial Test of Competence (ITC) and the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC).
For the ITC, Ketsa’s solid foundation from his CTA year was instrumental.
“I went into ITC confident, thanks to my preparation and discipline. I passed on my first attempt.”

“I received a Low Competence rating in the Board Course practice exams,” Ketsa explains. “However, these were designed to prepare us for the actual SAICA APC exam. I took this feedback seriously, adjusted my study approach, and fully immersed myself in the material.”
Through perseverance and strategic preparation, Ketsa passed the SAICA APC exam on his first attempt, underscoring the importance of resilience and adaptability.
