Rewriting Leadership: How Tshepo Matlou Is Coaching a New Generation to Lead with Purpose



The seeds of Tshepo’s future were unknowingly planted in 2004 when a colleague introduced him to the concept of coaching. “A lady by the name of Karen Boray explained what coaching is and what it can do for leadership,” he says. This encounter awakened something in him — a curiosity that quickly became an obsession. He began experimenting with coaching principles in his own team, reading about emotional intelligence and developing collaborative methods.

His breakthrough came in Mauritius, where he was invited to participate in a coaching supervision program. There, he trained other coaches and worked closely with business leaders — a transformative experience that helped him define his niche in executive and management coaching.

“If you can’t commit to your health or waking up on time, why would you think you can commit to financial discipline?” he asks. “We must deal with the word commitment before we can deal with goals.”
